margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: 'arial' , sans-serif;\">New York City is full of hotels catering to all tastes and needs, but I am sure both properties of the British<a href=\"https:\/\/www.firmdalehotels.com\/\"> Firmdale Hotels<\/a>,\u00a0<i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.firmdalehotels.com\/hotels\/new-york\/crosby-street-hotel\/\">Crosby Street Hotel<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0<i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.firmdalehotels.com\/hotels\/new-york\/the-whitby-hotel\/\">The Whitby Hotel<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>stand out from the competition. Why is that? The answer is: luxury boutique hotel meets design and art. Whereas the former <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: 'arial' , sans-serif;\">hotel has been in business since 2009, the latter was only opened in 2017. After four stays at the Crosby Street Hotel\u00a0my husband and I decided to give the second property a try. And so much can be said, we were thrilled with the experience at\u00a0The Whitby\u00a0Hotel! But this is not really surprising in light of our four consecutive stays at its sister hotel, which were all equally satisfying.<b><\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: 'arial' , sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"General\"><\/span><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: 'arial' , sans-serif;\">General<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: 'arial' , sans-serif;\">The British boutique hotel chain Firmdale was founded in 1985 by the husband and wife team Tim and Kit Kemp. While Tim Kemp works on property deals, Kit Kemp designs the buildings\u2019 interior, and this very successfully. The husband and wife team differs from other hoteliers as they like to own the buildings and do everything themselves. They even run the hotels on their own, staff is instructed in their own training school in London.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: 'arial' , sans-serif;\">Firmdale Hotels have been awarded the Queen\u2019s Award for Enterprise 2018 for their outstanding achievements in International Trade. And this already for the fourth time.<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: 'arial' , sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"LocationExterior\"><\/span><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: 'arial' , sans-serif;\"> <br class=\"avia-permanent-lb\" \/>Location\/Exterior<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: 'arial' , sans-serif;\">The\u00a0Crosby Street Hotel is located in the heart of SoHo. This popular neighborhood is known for its galleries, quaint shops and hip restaurants. The hotel was constructed on the site of a former parking lot and is on one level with the historic cast-iron buildings in the area.<br class=\"avia-permanent-lb\" \/><br class=\"avia-permanent-lb\" \/><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: 'arial' , sans-serif;\">Firmdale Hotels\u2019 first property in NYC is a perfect fit when it comes to the neighborhood\u2019s industrial character. This shows in its minimalist exterior of brick, stone and glass with floor-to-ceiling warehouse windows. You find here 86 rooms over 11 floors. <br class=\"avia-permanent-lb\" \/><br class=\"avia-permanent-lb\" \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">The second property of the British hotel group, <\/span>The Whitby Hotel<span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">, is situated on West 56<\/span><sup style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">th <\/sup><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">Street at 5<\/span><sup style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">th <\/sup><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">Avenue in the core of the business district of Midtown. Here you are steps away from the Museum of Modern Art, the Central Park and the 5<\/span><sup style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">th <\/sup><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">Avenue shopping. Its building is kept in limestone in line with the surrounding area it is kept. But Kit Kemp, the creative mastermind of Firmdale Hotels, has other things on her mind. She has a unique approach to design. Colors, pattern and textures are combined in a way that a fresh, modern British style results out of it. And she celebrates the combination of design and art. <br class=\"avia-permanent-lb\" \/><br class=\"avia-permanent-lb\" \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">Kit Kemp is much into colors and fabrics, she even makes their own. She has collaborated with various firms to produce her own range of products such as china, cloths and rugs. When designing, she does it for herself, but in the hope of somebody will like it. This is because I do not have much visual material of the\u00a0<i>Crosby Street Hotel<\/i>.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\"> <br class=\"avia-permanent-lb\" \/>The Midtown property, <\/span>The Whitby Hotel<i style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">,\u00a0<\/i><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">has not only a restaurant (The Whitby Bar) but also an area which is only open to hotel guests. The latter is called The Drawing Room. Actually, it is almost identical \u2013 at least as to the layout, though not regarding the style. Onsite is a restaurant (Crosby Bar), The Drawing Room and again the basement facilities. These include a 99-seat screening theater, three private rooms for events\/meetings and a \u2013 somewhat smallish \u2013 gym.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;\">\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Rooms\"><\/span><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: 'arial' , sans-serif;\">Rooms<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: 'arial' , sans-serif;\">All the 86 rooms at\u00a0The Whitby Hotel are individually designed featuring Kit Kemp\u2019s unique mix of color, pattern, texture and art. Even the standard rooms are sizable (31 \u2013 33 sqm). Compared with the usually tiny NYC accommodations, it is not too far-fetched to call them spacious!
